Indoor Air Quality Inspections
What is an Indoor Air Quality Inspection?
That's not an easy question to answer. It would be easier to say what an IAQ Inspection is not.
When an Georgia GreenTeam IAQ Specialist visits you, they review everything that could possibly cause air quality issues. Nothing is overlooked. Top to bottom, front to back, attic to crawlspace or basement. Our inspections are quite thorough and can last several hours depending on the size of the structure.
We consider many factors while investigating. Here are just a few:
- Health Issues and what types for the occupants
- Age of equipment and what type
- Size of the structure
- Landscaping and proper drainage
- Fresh air intake
- Visible signs of moisture damage, mold, insects, etc.
- Siding, roofing, foundation
Why have an Indoor Air Quality Inspection?
It's simple. You have persistent sinus or allergy issues, moisture damage or mold damage, or you are just concerned about your health and those around you.
Allergy and asthma rates are on the rise and most of these issues can be traced back to where we spend the majority of our time; indoors. Here are a few statistics:
-
Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and hypersensitivity pneumonitis. In addition, it can cause headaches, dry eyes, nasal congestion, nausea and fatigue. People who already have respiratory diseases are at greater risk. (American Lung Association)
-
People spend about 90 percent of their time indoors, with 65 percent of that in their homes. (National Safety Council)
-
Studies have found that indoor air pollution in the home can be from two to five times higher than outdoors, in some cases as high as 100 times higher than outdoors. (EPA)
-
Formaldehyde is a common chemical, found primarily in treated wood adhesive or bonding agents for many materials found in households and offices, including carpets, upholstery, particle board, and plywood paneling. The release of formaldehyde into the air may cause health problems, such as coughing; eye, nose, and throat irritation; skin rashes, headaches, and dizziness. (American Lung Association)
-
Those most susceptible to indoor air pollution are those at home the most: children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses. (National Safety Council)
More and more research is finding that our homes are affecting our health in alarming ways. Often, our own ignorance of what is going on in our homes or office, is the cause.
